New Settings Unlocked: The 8th Rule for Gold ($GLD)

I’ll keep this short.

I was extremely unhappy with VATS performance for on this latest risk-off signal so I spent this week tuning the 8th Rule for Gold specifically. The more responsive volatility profile and dynamic position sizing I figured would make for a great overlay that can capture moves quicker than the VATS with less drawdown.

Turns out, I was right.

For paid subscribers, at the end of this post I’ve shared the settings for (please note: this is not to be used on Gold futures, Spot or anything else besides GLD on NYSE. It has not been tested on any other ‘alternatives’ (except Spot but since I use GLD for my actual allocation, it was tuned for that specifically).

Also, side note, the 8th Rule is now live in the members area for both Gold and Bitcoin. I’ve ported over the full code from TradingView into a) Python first for backtesting & forward-testing purposes b) Javascript so you have a real time view on DurdenBTC.com.

I will still send out signal alerts and please don’t make any portfolio adjustments based on the indicators on the website just yet because I’ll be stress testing them for the next few weeks until I’m happy with the results.

Speaking of backtests, here is the full backtest for the 8th Rule on Gold ($GLD).

Not only do you get a better Sharpe ratio but Calmar as well along with a 50% haircut in drawdown pain.
