What This Chart Shows

The Crypto Fear & Greed Index distils market sentiment into one number from 0 to 100, blending volatility, momentum, volume, social media and Bitcoin dominance. This chart plots it against price so you can see how mood and price line up across the cycle.

  • Price sits in the top panel (log scale). Where sentiment is in extreme fear (≤15) the panel shades green; in extreme greed (≥85) it shades red. The rarer capitulation (≤8) and euphoria (≥93) extremes shade blue and magenta.
  • The index runs in the lower panel (0–100), with a 30-day average for the trend and dashed guides at 15 and 85, plus the rarer 8 and 93 extremes.
  • Extreme fear — investors are scared and prices are often depressed. Historically a value zone.
  • Extreme greed — investors are euphoric and prices are often stretched. Historically near tops.

How to Read It

The index is a contrarian tool: be greedy when others are fearful, and cautious when others are greedy. The green (extreme-fear) shading marks where sentiment has capitulated — repeatedly a value zone — and the red (extreme-greed) shading marks where the crowd is euphoric and price has run hot.

Sentiment can stay pinned at an extreme through strong trends, so it is not a precise timer. Treat it as an overlay on price and on-chain valuation, not a standalone trigger. The 30-day average helps separate a genuine regime from day-to-day noise.
